Lows and Highs

After God told Elijah to publicly call for a drought, He commanded him to “hide” himself in the Cherith ravine.  Cherith (of Kerith) means cut or gorge.  God basically told him to go and hide in a deep valley.

This must have seemed like some sort of punishment for a man of action like Elijah but it was there that he learned to trust God in greater ways.

As the land around him slowly withered due to the lack of rain and dew, Elijah witnessed miraculous provision from the Lord in the form of ravens regularly bringing him meat and bread.  And, in the process, God was preparing Elijah for his next big assignment.

God called Elijah to a hard and isolated place so that He could later use in a high and public place.  Never resent it when God sends you into a valley.  It’s not punishment; it’s preparation.

Are You Building an Atheist Church?

I read this great New York Times article about a church in London that’s designed for atheists.  No, it wasn’t designed to reach them.  It’s a church without God. Now, you might ask why an atheist would want...
