Money is Vastly Overrated

money

I’m so tired of people telling potential church planters that they need X number of dollars before they can plant a church.

Here’s the Deal

Let’s be honest, you do need money to do a lot of things in the ministry and I understand that a lack of money can often hinder a church plant but God has more than enough money and He can cause all sorts of things to happen to help you when you plant a church.

Beg, Borrow and…Well, Borrow Some More

We had no money when we launched.

We had no money when we launched.  We were using borrowed equipment and meeting in a movie theater we couldn’t afford.  (The theater billed us 30 days out so we were literally meeting there without the ability to pay for it and the Lord carried us through.)

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that you’ve got to know that you’re called and if you are then He will take care of you.  In fact, if you had everything in place financially before you launched I’d be afraid you weren’t stepping out in faith.  Remember, without faith it’s impossible to please God.

IF you’re called, do your best to raise a much money as you can and then move ahead no matter what.

  1. Tony- Great post! I wrote something about this on my blog the other day. The fact is you plant a church on whatever you have- that’s how much it takes. The lie we believed however was that we HAD to always be a broke church plant. Casey Graham helped us see the other side through Giving Rocket.

    Loving pastormojo.com!

  2. Thanks for nailing such an important topic Tony. I was told we needed a minimum of $150,000 to launch our second campus. We did it all, advertising, equipment, etc, for the $22,000 we were able to raise and were packed on our very first Sunday. It’s not all about money. Last time I checked God has promised to provide, but it doesn’t all have to come upfront.
