Undisciplined Talent

There’s a kid on my sons baseball team that has tremendous athletic ability.  You can tell by the way he runs, throws, catches and swings.  It’s obvious that he has the potential to be an incredible baseball player. One problem though, his talent is undisciplined. He has struck out 4 out of his last 5 at bats by swinging at balls over his head.

Undisciplined talent results in poor performance.  When we refuse to discipline ourselves we create bad habits.  We show up late to meetings.  We don’t meet deadlines.  We don’t return phone calls or emails. We don’t improve our skills.  The problem isn’t that most of us are untalented but that we are undisciplined.

Have you got any undisciplined talent that could result in poor performance?  What do you need to do to deal with it?
